Eligibility and Classification for USHER Subscribers

For the purposes of distinguishing any services and fees, USHER Subscribers are currently defined under two classes.

1. U.S. Institutions of Higher Education (USIHE)

The organization must be a USIHE or a unit of a USIHE (e.g., Library, Medical School, or Physics Department) that is currently accredited by an agency on the U.S. Department of Education’s list of recognized Regional Institutional Accrediting Agencies.

2. Sponsored Partners

If the organization is applying as a Sponsored Partner, the Organization must have a one-time Sponsor who is a current USIHE USHER Subscriber. If the Sponsoring Organization leaves USHER, this has no effect on the status of the Sponsored Participant.

3. Sponsored Partners (Special Permission)

If any virtual organization wishes to apply for USHER services, or if any internationally-based university or organization (with headquarters or governance based in a country outside the US) wishes to apply for USHER services, the USHER Policy Authority will vote on its eligibility.
